Team Cure SMA New York City Half Marathon Runners Raise $15,000 for Cure SMA

Nine Team Cure SMA runners completed the 2019 United Airlines New York City Half Marathon on Sunday, March 17. Together, the runners successfully raised over $15,000 for Cure SMA, the most in the race’s history for Team Cure SMA.

The race celebrated its 14th annual run this year and brought more than 20,000 runners onto the streets of Manhattan. The course began in Prospect Park and passed through several iconic New York City landmarks, including Grand Army Plaza, the United Nations, Grand Central Terminal and Times Square. The race finished in Central Park.

This year’s Team Cure SMA roster included: Catherine Martin, Kresh Lozina, Anthony Montes, Tracey Dunham, Maria Sisawang, Molly MacLeod, Kayla Cornett, Kevin Hodgetts and Emily Kirkpatrick.

My motivation and inspiration to run the NYC Half Marathon is my nephew, Theo Scafuto and his incredible parents, Amanda and Vinny Scafuto. Theo is a remarkable two-and-a-half-year-old and has SMA type 2. Seeing the amazing work Cure SMA has done to further research initiatives and support my family and others like mine, I knew I wanted to participate in this run - for Theo - and to give back to Cure SMA for all they do. The race was challenging but so much fun! I finished strong and carried a photo of Theo the entire 13.1-mile trek. So grateful I could be a part of Team Cure SMA!
