Daily Life

For a person with SMA, each of life’s milestones presents unique challenges. We offer sensitive support and resources that make it possible for children to fully participate in their childhoods and education, and for adults with the disease to actively engage in work, travel, or recreation.

At School addresses many questions that parents have when their child enters preschool or kindergarten, or when their child moves on to another grade or school. Questions about college are also covered.

At Home helps families evaluate potential home modifications to improve safety and accessibility.

Adults with SMA deals with employment, and other issues that may affect adults with SMA.

Play covers recreational activities for both children and adults.

Travel provides information and resources for common concerns in this area.

When addressing issues in daily life, remember:

  • Be flexible. It may take several tries to find the approach that is right for you.
  • Be patient. It takes time to adjust to new situations.
  • Be proactive. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or try something different.
