Annual SMA Research & Clinical Care Meeting
The Annual SMA Research & Clinical Care Meeting is the largest meeting of its kind in the world focused on spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and offering insightful discussion around new research and clinical care practices.
The Annual International SMA Research & Clinical Care Meeting brings together researchers from academia, government, and biotech/pharmaceutical companies with multi-disciplinary healthcare providers who are diagnosing and caring for people with SMA. The event is held in conjunction with Cure SMA’s Annual SMA Conference.
Goals for SMA Research & Clinical Care Meeting
Create open communication of early, unpublished scientific data, accelerating the pace of research
Foster collaborations, including cross-disciplinary knowledge sharing, integration of researchers and drug companies, and dialogue among new and leading clinicians
Facilitate collaborative discussions between new and leading clinicians to achieve improved care for SMA
Promote conversations between the SMA community and clinicians, researchers, and industry partners
2026 Annual SMA Research & Clinical Care Meeting
The 2026 Annual SMA Research & Clinical Care Meeting will be held in Orlando, Florida from Wednesday, June 24 – Friday, June 26, 2026, at Disney's Boardwalk Inn. Bringing together researchers from academia, government, and biotech/pharmaceutical companies with multi-disciplinary healthcare providers who are diagnosing and caring for people with SMA, the Annual Research & Clinical Care Meeting is the largest meeting dedicated to SMA research and care. We look forward to reuniting the community at this 30th annual meeting to learn about the latest advances in research, treatments, and care.
As always, the Annual Research & Clinical Care Meeting and Annual SMA Conference run parallel with each other. Abstract Submission
Abstract submission for the 2026 Annual SMA Research & Clinical Care Meeting is now open. We ask that all abstract submissions for talks be on new and unpublished data. Talk selection will be based on the content of your abstract, so please give enough detail for your submission to be evaluated.
This year, we encourage abstracts that spotlight key topics, including:
- Dual Treatment or Combination Therapy (biological evidence in support of/against to clinical observation/experience)
- Scoliosis and Orthopedic Interventions
- Neurocognition and brain structure/function
- Rehabilitation Recommendations: (examples may include: bracing, novel equipment, and school accommodations)
- Manifestations of disease
While the above are proposed topics of focus, we welcome abstract submissions on any topic related to SMA. Your contributions are vital to advancing our collective understanding and improving care outcomes for individuals with SMA.
Deadline to submit abstracts is Friday, March 6th. Notification of acceptance will occur on or before April 3rd.
