Local Support

As the largest nonprofit organization dedicated to SMA, Cure SMA is uniquely positioned to leverage our collective strength for a national impact. Through our local connections, we’re also able to offer personalized, local support to our SMA community.

With multiple treatments for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), it is more critical than ever that those with SMA and their families have access to the support and resources they need. This can be achieved right in the communities where they live and attend school or work. We believe that all people with SMA should have access to approved treatments, enroll in clinical trials, and receive top-notch care in their community.

From local fundraising activities to state advocacy for issues relevant to adults and children to our Summit of Strength programs across the country, Cure SMA offers a variety of ways to get involved and connect with your local community.

Chapters

Cure SMA has volunteer-led chapters across the U.S. that support our mission at the local level.

Our chapters:

  • Provide support for individuals with SMA and their families, whether sharing practical advice or simply having someone nearby who understands what you are facing
  • Work together to organize Cure SMA fundraising events (e.g., Walk-n-Rolls, galas, golf tournaments, etc.) to support the organization and community
  • Keep community members informed of opportunities for local education events (e.g., Summits of Strength) or advocacy and awareness efforts in which they can get involved

To find the chapter near you, visit our Chapter Page or reach out to [email protected].

Summits of Strength

The Summit of Strength is a single-day educational event hosted by Cure SMA. Summits are crafted to provide information for people of all ages and types of SMA, as well as their loved ones and caregivers. These one-day mini conference gives adults with SMA, families, and caregivers an opportunity to network and learn from national and local experts about the latest advances in treatment, care, advocacy, and support.

Each summit offers a unique agenda of topics ranging from standard of care, research and clinical trials, navigating the special education process, stress management techniques, and much more! Each presenter is an expert in their field, with years of experience specific to SMA. At these events, there is an opportunity for attendees to have their questions answered by these specialists in an intimate setting.

Along with the informative presentations, attendees can also meet their Cure SMA chapter leaders and connect with the rest of the local SMA community. This local engagement further strengthens the bonds that make our community so vibrant!
