For the eighth consecutive year, Cure SMA has received a grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for the SMA Researcher Meeting.
This year’s grant will go toward conference expenses for graduate students and fellows, who are younger researchers in training. With the help of this NIH grant, Cure SMA generously subsidizes the cost of hotel and travel for these students.
As the largest gathering of its kind in the world, the SMA Researcher Meeting brings together the top researchers in the field, making it an excellent opportunity for young researchers to become integrated the SMA community.
Through the SMA Researcher Meeting, these younger researchers also have the chance to present their findings in poster presentations and podium talks, gaining input and feedback from expert researchers, as we shape the next generation of SMA research. This year, 56 research presentations—just over 45% of the total planned—will be given by graduate students and fellows.
In addition, this grant from the NIH is part of our ongoing work to build partnerships with regulatory and government bodies such as the NIH, FDA, and Congress.
