Newfield Exploration Gives Generous Grant to Cure SMA

On Monday, February 9, 2015, Newfield Exploration presented Cure SMA with a grant for $2,500 to support ongoing research in finding a cure. Accepting the grant on behalf of Cure SMA were Marynell Larson, president of the Cure SMA Rocky Mountain Chapter, and Michelle Pritekel, board member of the Rocky Mountain Chapter.

In 2001, Newfield Exploration (an independent oil and gas company) formed the Newfield Foundation to play an important role in enhancing the quality of life in communities in which it is active. Organizations receiving these allocations are selected by an employee committee. These include donations to community services, environmental foundations, health/welfare, and cultural arts.

“I was so excited to hear that the Newfield Foundation selected Cure SMA to receive a grant. Cure SMA became very near & dear to my heart when my son was diagnosed in March of 2014 with SMA type III at the age of two. Cure SMA and its community has provided invaluable support and hope for my son’s future” said Michelle Pritekel, Newfield employee and Rocky Mountain Chapter board member.
