15th Annual New England Walk-n-Roll Raises Over $100,000

The 15th Annual New England Chapter Walk-n-Roll was held on Saturday, May 16, at beautiful DCR Wompatuck Park in Hingham, MA. The sun was shining as more than 600 people participated in the 1.5 mile walk. Last year, this event hit a milestone by reaching $1 million raised in its history, and this year has continued that impressive run with over $100,000 raised so far!

The Walk-n-Roll has become an annual event for many families, and a day to catch up with people they only see once a year! Attendees have come to expect certain things at the Walk—a raffle with fantastic items from all over the area, the local Boy Scouts handing out fruit, granola bars, water and ice cream cups, face painting and games to entertain the younger participants and finding their child’s photo posted on signs along the route.

For the second year in a row, Biogen has been a major sponsor for the Walk. This year, they had a team of 12—raising over $1,700—and set up a table with pamphlets and bracelets for all participants. Other sponsors included Ride-Away, John Hoadley Plumbing and Heating, Campanelli, Scituate Orthodontics and Tedeschi Food Shops of Cohasset.

Silvia Murphy began this Walk 15 years ago, after losing two children to SMA. Over the years, the Farrell family and the Norton family have joined Silvia and brought their own special talents to the event. With all of them and the fact that many of the volunteers have been volunteering for 15 years—together they add to the huge success of the Walk!
