Cure SMA is excited to announce the launch of a brand-new equipment grant program, made possible through the generous support of the Luke 18:1 Foundation. This program will provide Fold & Go Travel Electric Wheelchairs to children and adults living with SMA that they will own outright, not borrow.
Unlike our current equipment pool loan program, where items are returned for future use, this new grant initiative ensures that approved applicants will keep their wheelchair permanently. Applications will be reviewed for eligibility, and grants will be awarded as funding allows.
Why This Matters
For individuals with SMA, wheelchairs are more than just equipment, they are a lifeline to independence and freedom. But traditional power chairs are heavy, difficult to transport, and often require costly accessible vehicles. Air travel can be especially challenging, as personal wheelchairs must be stored in cargo, where they are at risk of damage or loss.
The Fold & Go Travel Electric Wheelchair is designed to change that. Lightweight, foldable, and airline-approved, it can travel in the airplane cabin, making trips easier, safer, and more accessible for individuals with SMA.
Apply for a Wheelchair
If you or your child has a confirmed SMA diagnosis and live in the United States or Puerto Rico, you may be eligible to receive a wheelchair through this new grant program. Please complete the grant application here. Applications will be reviewed and approved on a rolling basis. Please allow 4-6 weeks for a grant decision.
PROGRAM UPDATE: In less than 12 hours, we have already received over 250 applications, and we will not be able to fulfill every request at this time. You are welcome to still apply, and we hope to be able to fulfill additional requests as funding allows.
Our Gratitude
Cure SMA is deeply grateful to the Luke 18:1 Foundation and its supporters for making this life-changing opportunity possible. Thanks to their generosity, more individuals with SMA will be able to travel with confidence, independence, and peace of mind.
