Cure SMA Celebrates Dr. Mary Schroth as she Retires as Chief Medical Officer

We are honored to celebrate the incredible contributions of Dr. Mary Schroth, who is retiring after seven years as our Chief Medical Officer and after many decades of service and care for our community.

For several decades, Dr. Mary Schroth has been a driving force in advancing clinical care for individuals with SMA. Her dedication has transformed Cure SMA’s clinical care programs, significantly improving the standard of care for the whole SMA community. Through her leadership, she has guided critical medical education initiatives, ensuring healthcare professionals have the resources and knowledge to provide the best possible care.

Dr. Schroth was key to the implementation of newborn screening of SMA in all 50 U.S. states. This change to allow for early diagnosis and treatment is one of the many impacts that Mary has helped enable to save and change countless lives.

Her leadership in the Annual Clinical Care Meeting has provided invaluable insights to thousands of healthcare professionals, enriching our collective knowledge and strengthening collaboration across the medical community. She has been a passionate advocate, fostering key relationships that have helped shape the future of SMA care and treatment.

But beyond these incredible medical contributions, Mary set a key foundational value for our community with an indefatigable sense of personal caring for every single person in our community. She would answer any phone call at any hour and would always be the first on the scene at our Annual Conference to help anyone in need.

As she embarks on her well-earned retirement, we extend our deepest gratitude and congratulations to Dr. Schroth for her remarkable contributions to our organization and to our whole community.
