SMA Documentary Premieres at 2017 Rhode Island International Film Festival

Life & Atrophy, a film about SMA, premiered at the Rhode Island International Film Festival on Saturday, August 12th. It was directed, produced, edited and photographed by Gareth Burghes.

The film follows the McIntosh’s, whose son Miles has SMA Type II, as they navigate the diagnosis of SMA and as Miles continues to partake in the clinical trials of Nusinersen/Spinraza. SMA Researchers were also interviewed to discuss methods of studying the disease and commented on additional therapies in the drug pipeline.

Additionally, a portion of Life & Atrophy featured the Family Friendly Researcher Poster Session at the 2016 Annual SMA Conference at Disneyland in Anaheim, Ca. and the Researcher Relay Race, in which Miles participated.

If you are interested in a local screening of Life & Atrophy in your area, feel free to contact your Cure SMA national office staff person, or email [email protected]. If interested in the link and password to view the film, contact Gareth Burghes at [email protected].
